The National Book Festival

I Love 2BinDC! There are just so many amazing opportunities. For example, once a year Laura Bush and the Library of Congress sponsor a Book Festival on the National Mall where tons of authors come out to talk about and sign there books. They have a tent for all the states (Nevada was not represented this year) to set up a both and talk about books from there state. There is a PBS tent for kids to play and meet characters like "The Magic Schoolbus" and other kid favorites. The coolest part was that we got to see Laura and Jenna Bush. They wrote a kids book and they were signing copies of that. Up close they really are lovely ladies. They are in the tent in this picture (sorry, still not that good at editing.)

This is Alexander McCall Smith. He wrote "The #1 Ladies Detective Agency" and one of my favorite books that I discovered on bedrest. He was a very funny character, with his spectacles and kilt and all.

You can barely see her but this is one of my favorite children's book authors, Jan Brett. She wrote my favorite Christmas story "Little Blue Dishes" and a ton of other books. If you have any children's Christmas books I bet you have at least one by her. Such a nice lady. Does all her own illustration too.

This was David Shannon who wrote the book "No David." very funny book.

This was the person I was most excited to meet. Warren Brown was a DC lawyer who turned cup cake creator and started the "Cake Love" bakery and also has his own Food Network show, I forget the name. Most amazing cupcakes ever.

And this is George Duran from "Ham on the Street," another Food Network show. He was hysterical. Here is his advice on how to make fried chicken.

I am so jealous!! I wanted to come up so badly. Rick idolizes warren brown. Did you get to meet Jon Sceizca (sp?)? He is one of my favorite children's book authors!
